A boy grows up in Naples, idolizing Diego Maradona, and ends up playing for Napoli. Who could ask for more? Of course we are talking about Lorenzo Insigne. The Neapolitan has been in the news a lot lately because of his great play on the field and contract talks with Napoli off the field.

The Italian media is now reporting that Napoli and Insigne are close to finalizing the wingers new contract. It may all be wrapped up and announced early next week. The terms being talked about by the Italian media is a 4-year extension, worth around €4.5 million per year, plus bonuses.

Insigne has caught the attention of some big clubs in Europe like Bayern Munich, Liverpool, and Arsenal if you believe all the reports. However his heart is home with Napoli. Extending Insigne’s contract is the right move. He’s a fan favorite, hometown kid, and extraordinary talent. Insigne has scored 16 goals this season in all competitions (14 in Serie A). Insigne’s teammate Dries Mertens is drawing interest from many big clubs and could be leaving this summer, so locking up Insigne long-term is a no brainer.

Insigne hopes to follow in Maradona’s footsteps and help Napoli win the scudetto.
