While many Juventus fans are focused on their club’s success in the Champions League, the management is already planning for the future. Juventus have announced they’ve signed Boca Juniors’ 19-year old midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur. The Uruguayan will join the Italian club this upcoming summer and his contract will run until June 2022. Juventus will pay Boca Juniors €9.5 million plus bonuses, over the course of two years. Boca Juniors will also receive 50% of a future sale should Juventus sell Bentancur. If you recall, Juventus got the rights to purchase Bentancur as a part of the deal that sent Carlos Tevez to Boca Juniors.
This is a good signing for Juventus, adds more depth to their midfield. Sami Khedira has been outstanding this season, but there is uncertainty around his future. Marchisio has had his share of injuries and other than Mario Lemina and Stefano Sturaro, there isn’t much youth in the Juve’s midfield. (On a side note, I’m not sold on Sturaro, and he could be sold this summer)
Back in January, Juventus locked up some young talents; Atalanta’s Mattia Caldara and Ascoli’s Riccardo Orsolini. Now add Bentancur to that mix and Juventus’ future continues to look bright.
Another midfielder Juventus has been linked to is Lyon’s Corentin Tolisso. We will have to wait and see if the signing of Bentancur affects their pursuit of Tolisso.
