Love him or hate him. Mario Balotelli is one of the most polarizing players in all of football. To be fair, he has not been in the news as much as he once was during his time in England. However, Balotelli’s name draws a lot of interest and intrigue.

The latest rumors in Italy suggest that Sampdoria could consider signing Mario Balotelli this summer. Sampdoria may end up selling both Patrick Schick and Luis Muriel, therefore, creating a void in their attack. Schick and Muriel combined for 22 goals this season. Balotelli signed with Nice this past summer, a move that many considered signaled the end of the Italian striker. Fast forward 10 months and Balotelli was one of the top goal scorers in Ligue 1. He scored 15 goals, a career best.

A few days ago, Mario Balotelli posted a picture of himself and with a caption stating his openness to return to Nice, “Thank you people for all those emotions of this year. I hope we can be together again. Future will tell.”

I’m sure Balotelli is sincere in his openness to returning to Nice, but a part of him has to have the desire to return to Italy and prove in his home country that he can be that top-striker.

Sampdoria has been linked to Mario Balotelli in the past, so this is not a new rumor. Their president Massimo Ferrero is a bit crazy and might be the perfect president for Balotelli.

This summer, the Italian’s contract expires and he can sign with any club on a free transfer. Getting Balotelli on a free transfer makes him more attractive to clubs, given most won’t want to offer any significant transfer fee.

If you have been following me for a while, you know Mario Balotelli is one of my favorite players. I believe he has been overhyped throughout his career, but that he is a better player than most are willing to give him credit for. I know I would love to see Balotelli back playing in Serie A, what about you?
