One of Serie A’s most coveted young talents has decided to sign with Milan. Atalanta’s Franck Kessie has joined Milan on a two year loan, with the obligation to buy. The Ivorian had drawn interest from the likes of Juventus, Inter, Roma, Chelsea, Liverpool, but in the end, it is Milan who wins.

Kessie (20 years old) was just one of Atalanta’s several young talents to emerge this season. The midfielder got off to a great start this season, but did tail off. Nothing unusual, considering his age, so no need to be over concerned.

Kessie had the following to say about joining Milan:

“I want to thank everybody; my agent, the team, everyone. I am really happy to be part of this club. I like the project, Milan’s new project, with the new ownership group.”

Over the past few seasons, we have seen young midfielders emerge just like Kessie; Godfred Donsah and Amadou Diawara. Donsah showed promise at Cagliari, then signed with Bologna and has not lived up to the early hype. Diawara was at Bologna, was highly desired, ended up signing with Napoli this summer. Diawara has lived up to the hype, he had a good season, and even had a strong showing in the Champions League against Real Madrid. Milan will be hoping Kessie follows the path of Diawara, not Donsah. Kessie is a great starting point to rebuild that Milan midfield.

The summer transfer market has barely began and Milan are coming out swinging. Kessie is the second signing for Milan under their new ownership. Mateo Musacchio, Villarreal’s defender, is the new ownership’s first signing. Rumors in Italy say Milan are ready to go all in and make a big offer to Real Madrid for Alvaro Morata and are aggressively pursuing Lazio’s Lucas Biglia. Torino’s Andrea Belotti is another striker Milan are considering. Not a bad start to the summer mercato for Milan.
